On May 2, 2011, Honda Motor Co. announced that it is expanding a recall that began in November 2008 to check the driver's air bags on an additional 833,000 vehicles. According to the Associated Press, the vehicles being added to the recall include some 2001 and 2002 Accord and Civic, 2002 Odyssey, 2002 and 2003 CR-V, 2002 and 2003 Acura 3.2 TL and 2003 Acura 3.2 CL models.
According to a statement from Honda, the vehicles are being added to the recall because airbags installed after a crash may be faulty. These air bags have been reported to inflate with too much force and a casing can break and cause serious injury and death. The automaker says 2,430
faulty air bags were installed, but it doesn't know which vehicles got them and thus, the reason for the large vehicle recall size.
Honda is aware of 11 injuries and one death linked to these air bags.
