December 8, 2010 - A New York jury returned a verdict against premium exercise equipment maker, Cybex International, Inc. in the amount of $66 million. The case was filed by a woman who was made a quadriplegic after pulling a Cybex workout machine over on herself. The case was filed as a product liability lawsuit.
The jury found that Cybex was 75% liable, the physical therapy office where the machine was located 20% liable and Plaintiff 5% liable. Cybex said in a statement that they plan to appeal the jury's verdict and believes that they were not negligent and in no way responsible for Plaintiff's "tragic accident."
Cybex International, Inc. is a manufacturer of exercise equipment primarily for commercial use, including the weight machine at issue in this case. Cybex managment is "extremely disappointed in the verdict" which it argues is "not supported by the facts or the law."
Despite Cybex's outrage at the verdict, there are many faulty products like the weight machine that paralyzed Plaintiff in this case that cause people to be seriously injured
and even die. If you or a loved one has been injured by a faulty product
